520 |a"Production of peat moss in Canada in 1949 amounted to 61,811 a decrease of 31.2 per cent in output compared with 1948. Forty companies contributed to the output, over 80 per cent of which came from two areas; the Fraser River delta in British Columbia and the Riviere du Loup area, Quebec. The reduced production was due largely to the heavy rains in the Fraser River delta in August, 1948 which prevented the harvesting of the 1948 output. Most of the production is exported to United States for use as horticultural moss, and as poultry and stable litter"--p. 1.
