The model is embedded into the MSG multicountry model, and a number of policy changes and shocks are considered. The paper considers the impact of changes in Canadian monetary and fiscal policies and draws a distinction between the short-run and long-run effects of these policies. A distinction is also made between temporary, permanent, anticipated, and unanticipated policy changes. In addition, the paper considers the impact on Canada of a fiscal expansion and a monetary expansion in the United States, as well as the effects on Canada of a permanent fall in the world supply of oil and a rise in productivity in Canada. The latter shock could be interpreted as one aspect of the free-trade agreement with the United States"--Abstract, p. ix. |
