520 |a"The thickness of floating ice is one of the most important general parameters to be measured for many applications in the fields of transportation, engineering and climatology. The requirement for accurate thickness information, with details on the ice structure, led to the development and use of the heated wire ice thickness gauge. Once installed, the gauge provides a means of making in-situ thickness measurements on fresh and saltwater ice quickly and accurately. This report describes the measurement methods of determining ice structure from readings obtained, and details of construction of the gauge complete with engineering drawings"--Abstract, p. v.
