520 |a"Water samples from lakes Ontario and Huron were analyzed simultaneously, using the Technicon AutoAnalyzer I and II (AAI and AAII) systems, for soluble reactive phosphate, soluble reactive silica, nitrate plus nitrite nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, total alkalinity and chloride. This paper describes the major instrumental features of the AAI and AAII systems and compares the results of sample analysis, standard deviations and percent recoveries for the methods used. The results of the study indicated that comparable analytical results were obtainable from the two systems for all of the parameters except ammonia. The results of sample analysis for ammonia by the AAI method exceeded those obtained using the AAII method by as much as 18%. Both systems gave satisfactory percent recoveries and the precisions compared reasonably well"--Abstract, p. iv.
