"At the request of the Honorary Advisory Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, the Dominion Bureau of Statistics recently undertook a special survey of Canadian Chemical Industries, as a section of the annual Industrial Census. The purpose of the survey was twofold: (1) to provide a directory of Canadian Chemical Industries and their products for the use of the trade; and (2) to assemble data regarding the raw materials used, the products and by-products manufactured, imports and exports, and other information calculated to indicate not only the importance of the industry and the progress which it has made during the war, but also possible new and profitable trade openings in industrial chemical lines"--Preface.
