| 520 | |a"As surveillance activity on the Great Lakes expanded, the need arose for an efficient means of facilitating the interpretation of the vast amount of data produced by this multi-station, multi-cruise program. It was recognized that to follow trends in the variables being measured, some attempt had to be made to provide a single number or quantity representative of the lake as a whole. To achieve this objective the computer program ALDAR (Averaging Lake DAta by Regions) was created in July of 1975 by N. Knight, R. Gottinger and E.B. Bennett.
