Ecological overview summary for the Peel Sound ecologically and biologically significant area (EBSA) / by Karen M. Dunmall ... [et al.].: Fs97-4/3163E-PDF
"In 2011, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) identified Peel Sound as an Ecologically and Biologically Significant Area (Peel Sound EBSA) based on Narwhal use and, to a lesser extent, Beluga use. The EBSA provides valuable aggregation, rearing and (inferred) foraging habitat for the Somerset Island summering stock of the Baffin Bay Narwhal population and meets both the aggregation and fitness consequences criteria required by DFO for EBSA designation. The area is also utilized by a portion of the Eastern High Arctic-Baffin Bay Beluga population in summer. Although the Peel Sound EBSA is not well studied, this report includes a summary of available information, and identifies key habitat areas and knowledge gaps to provide an Ecosystem Overview for Peel Sound and surrounding area"--Abstract, p. vii.
