Design and testing of an aqueous phase liquid-liquid extractor (APLE) for the determination of organochlorine contaminants / R.C. McCrea and J.D. Fischer.: En36-503/138E-PDF
"A field unit for the extraction of 200-L water samples was devised to provide a means of determining low-level organochlorine contaminants. This aqueous phase liquid-liquid extractor recirculates dichloromethane (d = 1.326) and is capable of concentrating and isolating contaminants in less than 2 h. Recovery tests based on two trials simulating environmental concentrations of 0.05, 0.25 and 1.0 ppt are presented for the following contaminants: HCB; α-BHC; γ-BHC; heptachlor; aldrin; heptachlor epoxide; γ-chlordane; αz-chlordane; α-endosulfan; p,p'-DDE; dieldrin; endrin; o,p'- DDT; p,p'-TDE; p,p'-DDT; ß-endosulfan; mirex; and p,p'-methoxychlor. Over the range of concentrations studied, the mean percent recovery was found to vary from 70% to 123%, with an overall mean recovery of 92%"--Abstract, p. v.
