The determination of radium-226 in uranium ores and mill products by alpha energy spectrometry / J. B. Zimmerman and V. C. Armstrong.: M38-13/76-11E-PDF

"A reliable routine procedure for determining 226-Ra by alpha energy spectrometry is described. Radium is isolated as sulphate from the sample matrix by co-precipitation with a small mass of barium and analysed using a ruggedized silicon surface barrier detector. The method is capable of providing high accuracy over a large 226-Ra concentration range and is applicable to materials such as uranium ores, uranium mill products and effluent streams. Samples resulting from nitric acid leach experiments with Elliot Lake ores were examined using the procedure. The distribution of 223-Ra, 224-Ra and 226-Ra between the leach products, (residue and leach liquor), is discussed"--Abstract, p. i.
