520 | |a"In this monograph, retired former Canadian Armed Forces officer Tony Balasevicius, an experienced strategic analyst, examines the complex subject of hybrid, insurgency and multi-domain warfare within the contemporary security environment. As his title indicates, his analysis leads him to believe that future war will be waged on a "battlefield of battlefields" where state and non-state entities will compete for political objectives by using every tool available to them from cyber, informational, diplomatic, economic and military methodologies to achieve their end goals. In fact, Balasevicius contends that states specifically will endeavour to utilize means short of conventional military engagement to weaken and destabilize their opponents utilizing strategic means (e.g. diplomatic, informational, cyber), as well as tactical methods (e.g. fomenting social dissent and political agitation, using proxy forces) to achieve their objectives. To make his point, the author uses the Russian actions in Syria and the Ukraine as graphic case studies of what future war will look like"--Foreword, page vii. |
