Approximately 70% of the park consists of a marsh that is separated from Lake Erie by two barrier bars converging at the south to form Point Pelee’s distinctive triangular shape. Although Point Pelee is Canada’s smallest national park, it is internationally known as a world-class bird-watching site and a resting site for Monarch butterfly migration.
