Gas chromatographic determination of bis(2-ethylhexyl) pathalate and di-n-octyl phthalate in water samples (in conjunction with the analysis of organochlorines) / J.F. Ryan and B.F. Scott.: En13-5/86-214E-PDF

"A method for the quantitative analysis of bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate and di-n-octyl phthalate in aqueous environmental samples is reported. The method enables the simultaneous extraction and clean up of organochlorines and phthalates for quantitative analysis. Natural water samples are solvent extracted with dichloromethane. The extract is concentrated and subjected to column chromatography on silica gel for clean up and for the separation of the organochlorines and phthalates into separate fractions. The column fractions collected are concentrated and quantitatively analyzed using capillary column gas chromatography with electron capture detection, which is sensitive to low picogram levels of phthalates. The method permits the quantitative determination of the two phthalates of interest in water samples at parts per trillion levels"--Abstract.
