Heavy rains over the Kootenays / Peter Haering, meteorologist.: En57-44/78-013E-PDF

"On April 28, 1978 most of the Kootenays received between 10 and 20 mm. of rain; and on this day Cranbrook reported slightly over 30 mm. of rain. For Cranbrook this was a 24 hour record rainfall for the month of April. Two pertinent questions might well be asked: What type of system will produce such copious precipitation over a relatively large area of interior British Columbia? and Can satellite imagery be used to determine whether such an event is likely to occur?"
