Usefulness of the LFM, PWC isobaric progs and the PWC isobaric verification scores for marine wind forecasts / Pat Morin, supervising meteorologist.En57-44/79-034E-PDF

"The Pacific Weather Centre (PWC) issues isobaric prognostic charts (18hr, and 30hr) 4 times daily for an area outlined in Fig. 1. Through experience, the users of these charts can associate the behaviour of coastal winds under various synoptic situations. In particular, the marine forecaster of PWC issues marine forecasts based on these prognostic charts. This note compares the ability of both the LFM and PWC prognostic charts to forecast the isobaric pattern. Alos examined is the validity of the PWC computed skill score for verifying coastal gradients. The author's subjective assessment and the PWC skill score are compared for several months."
