520 |a"After a brief introduction, the Statement summarizes our findings on the effects of immigration on the per-capita income of the host population and on unemployment. It then reviews the political effects, in terms of Canada's weight in the international community and of the size and distribution of population among the provinces and among the country's three largest metropolitan areas, under three different immigration scenarios. Turning to the immigrants themselves, we examine how well they do in Canada and review the issues involved in the processing of refugees. The social implications of immigration are examined from two points of view: prejudice and tolerance, and the management of diversity. Our findings here make us optimistic about the acceptability of more immigration. We find a trend towards greater tolerance of visible minorities and general support for more immigration. We have also been able to document the economic success experienced by immigrants themselves"--Foreword, page ix-x.
