Solar illumination normalization for visual satellite imagery / Jacques Albert, meteorologist.: En57-44/83-001E-PDF
"The installation at the Pacific Weather Centre of a computerized data analysis system for satellite imagery has opened the door to sophisticated enhancement techniques destined to increase the usefulness of that information. We now have access to the digital data, and we can modify the information content of each pixel (picture element). In particular, this work proposes a method to uniformize visual pictures obtained during the course of a day, that is, to eliminate the gradual darkening of an area as the sun moves away from it."
