"Pursuant to section 68 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA) (Canada 1999), the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Health have conducted a screening assessment of 1H-isoindole-1,3(2H)-dione, 2,2'-(1,2-ethanediyl)bis[4,5,6,7-tetrabromo- (CAS RN 32588-76-4), commonly known as ethylene bis(tetrabromophthalimide) and denoted with the abbreviation EBTBP. EBTBP is a substance within the Certain Organic Flame Retardants (OFR) Substance Grouping, which includes ten organic substances having a similar function: application to materials to slow the ignition and spread of fire. This substance was identified as a priority for assessment on the basis of possible human health concerns (related to potential for exposure). EBTBP does not occur naturally in the environment"--Synopsis, page iii.
