"Fluorescence under ultraviolet illumination has been observed in anion and cation exchange resins when in the unloaded state. This fluorescence decreases rapidly in intensity as the resin is loaded and this process has been shown to offer a practical method for controlling the loading and elution cycles in ion exchanges operations"--Synopsis, page i.
