"In 1959 it was recognized that the Canadian Uranium industry was faced with a sharpy reduced demand for its product. It was therefore decided to investigate the use of uranium in non-nuclear applications. One area considered was the use of uranium as an alloying element in ferrous materials. Since ferrous alloys, such as steel are produced in very large quantities, a relatively large new market for uranium would result if alloying additions were found to produce an economic improvement"--Foreword, page i.
