520 |a"Bisphenol A (BPA) is manufactured in large quantities in North America and used worldwide as building blocks for numerous plastic products. Its environmental occurrence has become a concern recently because it has been shown as one of the more potent anthropogenic endocrine-disrupting chemicals. In the present work, analytical methods. have been developed for the determination of EPA levels in municipal sewage effluent and sludge samples. Application of these methods to ca. 100 samples collected from sewage treatment plants at various locations in Canada suggests the ubiquitous occurrence of BPA in sewage effluent and sludge. This study is another example of the Institute’s continuing effort in research on endocrine-disrupting chemicals in the Canadian environment"--Management perspective.
