Development of reference sediment samples for solid phase toxicity screening tests / by K.K. Kwan and B.J. Dutka.: En13-5/95-61E-PDF

"A non-toxic reference sediment was prepared from a natural environmental sample collected from a pristine area in Lake Erie, Ontario. This sediment was washed with flowing tap water and filtered through a 250 micron mesh until a negative response was obtained in the Direct Solid Phase Toxicity Testing Procedure (DSTFP). This non-toxic reference sediment sample was freeze-dried and was found to be consistently non-toxic and stable after repeated testing by the DSTTP"--Abstract.
