5203 |a"On the lower part of the ablation area of the White Glacier standard terrestrial photogrammetric techniques were used to measure the height difference of the glacier surface (21 June 1969 to 5 August 1969, and 5 August 1969 to 4 August 1970) at 689 points spaced on a 50 m grid, covering an area of 1.7 km2. Twenty-two ablation stakes served as control. Photogrammetry is not necessarily considered a method of replacing stakes for measuring specific ice ablation, because a glacier's specific vertical velocity components, necessary for deducing ablation from height changes, can only be measured by stakes anchored in the ice"--Abstract.
