"The purpose of this study was to provide the Federal Government of Canada with the commercial and technical data necessary to formulate effective strategies for the support of the Canadian remote sensing industry through the 1990s. The specific requirement of this study included a review of the international market for remote sensing products and services with projections for future spending in the three main sectors of the earth observation industry; namely, satellite systems and subsystems, ground receiving stations and data distribution, and value added systems and services. The second requirement of the study was to compile a data base of all Canadian companies with capabilities in these sectors. An analysis of the Canadian capabilities and deficiencies in the Canadian technology base was performed. The final requirement was for the generation of optional strategies which will serve to enhance the international market share of the Canadian industry"--Abstract, page i.
