"In 1977, New York State ranked 21st in the United States in agricultural income with a cash value in agricultural products of more than $1.7 billion. Dairy products accounted for more than one-half the agricultural income, totalling in excess of $983 million. New York ranked third nationally in milk production and third in total income from dairy products. Eggs provided a large source of income for state farmers with 1977 production valued at $78 million"--Economy and industry, page 8.
