Assessment of Georges Bank (ICNAF subdivision 5Ze) scallop stock 1972-76 incorporated / by J.F. Caddy and G.S. Jamieson.: Fs70-8/77-32E-PDF

"Cohort analysis of Canadian and U.S. size composition data for 1972-76 was attempted after conversion-to equivalent age using existing von Bertalanffy growth parameters and length-weight relationships. Analysis under two different sets of assumptions as to availability at age gives similar results: Peak mortality at ages 4-5 of F = 0.6 declines with age to F = 0.2-0.3 for ages 6+, reflecting the fishing strategy of the Canadian fleet; namely, to look for high-density patches of age 3-4 recruits in preference to lower densities of older scallops."--Abstract, page 2.
