Surviving abuse and building resilience : a study of Canada's systems of shelters and transition houses serving women and children affected by violence / Karen Vecchio, chair.: XC71-1/1-421-15E-PDF
"Violence against women is a public health crisis in Canada. The physical and psychological effects of violence are profound and long-lasting. When escaping violence, women and children need access to safe housing and appropriate support services. However, shelters and transition houses across Canada do not have enough beds or services to meet demand. Levels of service provided across the country are also different. The House of Commons Standing Committee on the Status of Women (the Committee) held hearings between October and December 2018 on the system of shelters and transition houses serving women and children affected by violence"--Summary, page [1].
