The doctor's office, the walls, and the north-west bastion, Lower Fort Garry : the history of their structure and functions / by Philip Goldring.: R61-2/7-51E-PDF

"The doctor's office is the newest original structure still standing within the walls of Lower Fort Garry. It was built in 1885 as an office for Dr. David Young, first medical superintendent of the Manitoba Asylum when that institution was founded in the north-east corner of the Fort. As such, the structure is divorced from the main interpretive themes ofthis National Historic Park, namely the economic activities of the Lower Settlement, and the supplying, provisioning and administration of the fur trade of the Northern Department. The doctor's office belongs, rather, to the fifteen-year period of government activity, 1870-1885."--page 1.
