Determination of acid neutralizing capacity of water and related problems / by I. Sekerka, J.S. Ford, J.F. Lechner and Y.M. Sheikh.: En13-5/88-103E-PDF

"Acid neutralizing capacity of water is a parameter of great importance for studies of aquatic ecosystems. In this paper several conceptual and terminological problems related to the determination of acid neutralizing capacity of water are discussed. The determination of acid neutralizing capacity by using automated conductometric acid-base titration is described. Performance is evaluated and compared with performance of the potentiometric titration. Conductometric titration is simple, fast, sensitive (detection limit 0.1. ppm) and accurate. Relative standard deviation of the determination increased from about 1% at high levels to about 10% at 0.1 ppm level. The complete system of automation using a desk top computer to control a sample changer, an autoburette and a conductivity meter is described. The computer functions also as a data handling device"--Abstract, page ii.
