Age determination of white hake (Urophycis tenuis) in the Gulf of St. Lawrence / by J.J. Hunt.: Fs70-8/82-25E-PDF

"Examination of white hake (Urophycis tenuis) otoliths suggests reliable estimates of age can be obtained from thin cross-sections using reflected light. Divergent growth rates between males and females were found indicating that age length keys are required for each sex. Ages are validated by comparison of modal lengths derived from length frequency and mean lengths calculated from otoliths."
