This idealized model considers the flux of substrate by diffusion through the viscous sublayer into the biofilm. with diffusion and reaction within the biofilm. Solutions for zero-order as well as first order kinetics are presented and it is shown that the rate of change of the concentration in the main flow is directly related to the kinetics in the biofilm.
