Due to the widely varying chemical nature of dyes, there is no single method which would suffice for their chromatographic separation from each other and from natural co-extractives. The best current methods involve high performance liquid chromatography with a diode array spectrophotmetric detector. This method naturally requires a library of dye spectra. Twenty-two dyestuffs which are commonly used in the Eastern Townships of Quebec are identified, and their ultraviolet-visible spectra are determined"--Abstract, page 2.
