"Recognizing the value of quality management (QM) as a key competitive strategy for businesses in the '90s, Industry and Science Canada, in collaboration with Statistics Canada and members of the quality community, conducted a survey of the Canadian manufacturing sector in March 1993. The purpose of the survey was to determine to what extent business establishments were using QM practices. The effects of establishment size, geographic region and industrial sector on the use of QM practices and the impact of the adoption of QM on company performance were analyzed. This report is based on an analysis of responses provided by a sample of 787 business establishments ranging in size from 20 to over 2500 employees in all industries in the manufacturing sector across Canada. Respondents were primarily plant managers, presidents/CEOs and quality managers"--Executive summary, page i.
