5203 |a"Research. vessel survey results are inconclusive for pollock, however commercial catch rates would indicate that the 1979 year-class is strong whilst the 1978 year-class is not as large as previously thought. Cohort analyses further suggest that fishing mortality has been underestimated in past assessments, such that year-classes preceding 1979 have been exploited to a greater extent. A terminal F of 0.35 was considered the most appropriate level to provide the best estimate of stock status in 1981. Projections with F0 1 catches in 1982 and 1983 gave 42,000 and 48,000 mt respectively. If the TAC is taken in 1982 (54,000 mt) then the projected catch for 1983 is 45,000 mt."
