An examination of the status of the west coast herring stock with a re-evaluation of the historical data base / by J.A. Moores, G.H. Winters, and M.F. Dawson. : Fs70-8/82-49E-PDF

"Catches from the Newfoundland west coast herring stock fell from 19,100 t in 1980 to 13,200 t in 1981 with a reduction in catch occurring in all gear components. The catches from both spawning groups are dominated by age group 11+ with the only change in the age frequency distribution from 1980 being an increased contribution from the 1977 year-class by both spawning groups. Due to the predominance of old fish in the autumn-spawning component the values of natural mortality were re-examined."--Abstract.
