"This exploratory ecotoxicological study of the waters, sediments and suspended sediments in the Athabasca, Peace and Slave Rivers is part of a four year research project under the aegis of the federal Panel for Energy Research and Development. The long term goal of this ecotoxicological-bioassay study is to develop the knowledge base which can assist government and industry in the assessment of potential environmental impact of oil sands operations upon river systems, and to incorporate this knowledge base into a model which can be used to predict environmental sensitivity to various scenarios"--Management Perspective.
