Trends in stock structure of witch flounder on St. Pierre Bank from biomass surveys / by W.R. Bowering and J. Baird. : Fs70-8/80-35E-PDF
"Landings of witch flounder on St. Pierre Bank has fluctuated from 570 t to 4805 t over the past 17 years. It is mainly a by-catch fishery of other species such as cod and redfish, however, years of high catch were probably more a directed fishery when it was not possible to fish other species. Incomplete biomass surveys indicated relative stability in the stock over the past several years, however, it was not possible to obtain biomass estimates for the whole stock area. It was found that the numbers of old fish found in the catches of earlier years now appear to have been removed almost entirely"--Abstract.
