Final technical report on high speed continuous data modem / by Canadian Marconi Company, Telecommunications Division.: Co24-127/1975E-PDF
"Modulation schemes for application to continuous high bit rate digital transmission in terrestrial and satellite communication systems were studied, and their practical implementations. The major system limitation is the linearity ofthe high power amplifiers used in the transmitter. It is concluded that with present day technology QPSK (quadrature phaseshift keying) is optimum for satellite systems and QPR (quadrature partial response) is optimum for terrestrial systems. The report includes an assessment of parameters causing degradation from ideal system performance. A companion report under separate cover discusses market aspects"--Abstract.
