520 |a"Landings from the American plaice fishery in the Gulf of St. Lawrence have been stable since 1963. A series of commercial catch and effort data from 1972-1980 is presented using a median smoother. The commercial CPUE however, may not be indicative of trends in the overall fishery since the large vessels of the mobile fleet do not direct their effort on plaice. Data from research vessel surveys indicate that a number of strong year-classes, especially those of 1971 and 1972 are entering the fishery. Biomass estimates for 1980 also indicate that the total plaice biomass has doubled since 1970"--Abstract.
