5203 |a"Two studies were conducted to test whether: (a) it is possible to stress soldiers using virtual reality, and (b) it is worth developing virtual characters resembling real people experiencing strong pain in order to elicit stress. The first study was conducted with 47 soldiers who played two 3D horror games using three different types of immersive technologies. The second study was conducted with 42 civilians that were familiar with one of two virtual characters experiencing pain. Both studies were effective in inducing stress among participants.
