Impact of rubblemound breakwater at Goderich / by Craig T. Bishop and Phil Zrymiak.: En13-5/90-120E-PDF

"To assess the impacts of a new breakwater on coastal and fluvial processes at Goderich, a five-year environmental monitoring program has now been completed. It consisted of four surveys to collect hydrographic data and bed material samples. From the hydrographic survey results, subsidence of approximately 0.5m was found to have occurred between 1984 and 1988 over most of the survey area. This is attributed to the subsurface salt-mining activity at Goderich. The impact of the new breakwater on downdrift erosion is considered to be negligible, and its impact on navigability at the mouth of the Maitland River appears to be beneficial"--Abstract.
