"As videotex develops and gains public prominence, important issues are raised about its implications for society. The Department of Communications has a two-fold role to play in the area. It must address the social implications of new telecommunications services as part of its general policy responsibilities; and it must ensure that the development of the Canadian videotex system (Telidon) occur in such a way that it contributes to the public good. This paper reviews some of the major social issues associated with videotex, and suggests several research initiatives"--Introduction, page 1.
