Effect of water temperature and frazil ice on Price meter performance / P. Engel.: En13-5/93-62E-PDF

"Tests under controlled laboratory conditions were conducted to examine the effects of changes in water temperature and the growth of anchor ice on the critical parts of the Price current meter. Three types of rotors were used: the conventional metallic rotor, the Canadian Lexan rotor and the USGS Polymer rotor. Effects of changes in water temperature were found to be unimportant. It was further found that the metallic rotor is most susceptible to frazil ice deposition and therefore least reliable under flow conditions when frazil ice is present. The Canadian or the USGS synthetic rotors should be used when such conditions exist"--Abstract, page iii.
