"This is the second of a series of reports on the evaluation of analytical data. The first report evaluated the major ions sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium, and the evaluation was carried out by six participating laboratories. The current report evaluates the nutrients phosphorus, nitrogen and carbon and the study involved nine laboratories - four in the Water Quality Division and five outside the federal government. Two more studies are in progress and reports are being prepared. These two studies evaluate the trace metals copper, zinc, lead, chromium, manganese, mercury, cadmium and arsenic"--Foreword, page v.
