EHF controlled-beam antennas for SATCOM : phase-B study : final report / J.L. Yen.: Co24-223/2-1983E-PDF
"Detailed scanning properties of multi-beam and phased array reflector antennas and the feeds required are analyzed. Sample designs for uplink and downlink applications are given. Design of zoned dielectric lens for broadband applications and the feeds are examined. Environmental effects on lenses and their remedies are considered. The results suggest that a one meter diameter multi-beam lens antenna is possible for the downlink but rather difficult for the uplink. The unique SATCOM requirements on beam control are analyzed. A system based on precise determination of jammer locations with respect to beacon transmissions is described. A combination of slow acting broadband nulling and fast acting narrow band nulling is proposed. Feed forward and feed back implementation of an intellegent adaptive array capable of nearby nulling is considered. The operation of an experimental two-element analog adaptive array using the LMS algorithm is described. Dynamic pattern adaptation in the presence of varying jamming situation is presented and compared with analysis. Recommendations for further studies in Phase C for future SATCOM are presented"--Summary.
