"Under the Department of Communications Northern Pilot Project 1971-72, a Trail communications experiment was conducted at Fort Franklin, Northwest Territories. This project saw the introduction into the community of light transportable radio transceivers to be utilized by trappers and their families for intracommunity communication, as the community seasonally extended its boundaries to include a 100 mile radius around the settlement proper. These units were battery operated and rechargeable batteries with AC adapters were supplied"--Background, page 1.
