Summary of data from 2015, 2016 and 2017 herring acoustic surveys in the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization Divisions 4VWX / by Rabindra Singh, Arthur MacIntyre, Jenna Munden, Allen Clay, Derek...: Fs97-13/1299E-PDF
"Automated acoustic recording systems were deployed on commercial fishing vessels to document the distribution and relative abundance of Atlantic Herring from industry vessel surveys and fishing excursions in the Bay of Fundy and coastal Nova Scotia area within Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) divisions 4VWX. During the years, 2015-2017, regularly scheduled surveys at approximately 14 day intervals were conducted on the main Herring spawning components, and the spawning stock biomass for each component estimated by summing these results. Within the Southwest Nova Scotia/Bay of Fundy area, structured surveys were conducted in Scots Bay, German Bank, Trinity Ledge and Spectacle Buoy areas. In the coastal Nova Scotia area, structured surveys were conducted in the Little Hope/Port Mouton and Halifax/Eastern Shore areas. No survey was completed in Glace Bay during the 2015-2017 period. This report summarizes the acoustic data outputs that were obtained from the analyses of the recorded acoustic data for the three years"--Abstract, page iv.
