A processing system for Fischer and Porter precipitation gauge data / by D.M. Pollock, J. Rogalsky and D.A. Carr.: En57-23/6-73E-PDF
"The historical approach to handling the punched tape records from Fischer and Porter gauges has been machine translation to punched cards for computer processing. However, considerable manual intervention has been required at all stages to minimize the loss of data. In 1970, the Climatology Division of the Atmospheric Environment Service introduced a new system which minimized manual intervention without loss of data. In this new system, the tapes are corrected for errors in recording accumulated precipitation (not undercatch of precipitation by the gauge due to wind), and errors in timing"--Abstract.
