"Lake Saint-Louis was a major industrial hub for Quebec in the middle of the 20th century. With the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway and construction of the Beauharnois hydroelectric dam, the upstream part of Lake Saint-Louis became heavily industrialized, and its aquatic environment has been severely impacted by discharges of toxic contaminants"--Issue, page 2.
