Ammonia and urea production of coho salmon under hatchery conditions / by W.E. McLean and F.J. Fraser.: En42-1/74-5E-PDF

"Routine measurements of the ammonia and urea production of hatchery reared coho salmon have been carried out at the Big Qualicum River Experimental Hatchery. Concentrations of the major nitrogen excretory product, ammonia, follow a regular diurnal pattern. Urea nitrogen output is more variable and accounts for an average of less than 40 % of the nitrogen excretory wastes. A variety of hatchery conditions effect characteristic changes in ammonia production"--Abstract.
