"Although recent tagging studies heve shown the west coast of Newfoundland to be a discrete herring stock area, studies conducted in the early 1970's showed an overlap between the west coast stock and southern Gulf of St. Lawrence herring stock. These studies indicated that the overlap was probably most extensive during the spring in the area of the St. George's Bay"--Abstract.
